Animal Crossing New Horizons Mermaid Nintendo Switch

Animal Crossing New Horizons Mermaid Nintendo Switch

Dive into my new mermaid review of Animal Crossing New Horizons Mer themed room. In this review I’ll show you all items you can collect to create this sea inspired pastel room, for Gamer-mers only. Along with my style and layout from my own Animal Crossing home.

How to obtain items

To be able to create this room and mermaid style you will have to start farming from Pascal (the otter), he appears in the sea everyday and you will receive a gifted item or Pearl in exchange for the clam shells you find while diving in the sea, which can only be done once a day. Remember, you will need a diving swimsuit which you can purchase from Nook Cranny's shop. Pearls can also be found on the sea floor when diving, so you won’t just have to wait to get them from Pascal to start crafting with. You won’t just be getting items from Pascal, he is also notorious for his parting words of ‘wisdom’.

List of Obtainable Items

There are a number of items and clothing pieces you will be gifted while doing this daily with Pascal, so here is a full list of what to expect. There are 21 items in total, so don’t miss out! Grab them up when you can each day. Here arethe 15 DIY crafting recipes to collect:

  • Mermaid Bed
  • Mermaid Lamp
  • Mermaid Sofa
  • Mermaid Dresser
  • Mermaid Shelf
  • Mermaid Closet
  • Mermaid Screen
  • Mermaid Chair
  • Mermaid Wall Clock
  • Mermaid Table
  • Mermaid Wall
  • Mermaid Flooring
  • Mermaid Rug
  • Mermaid Vanity

Mermaid Rug

The mermaid rug was the last item that I managed to pick up by diving for a clam shell for Pascal. This was the last piece to my mermaid dream home to complete my set. Additionally, there is the Summer Shell rug that I also added onto my floor, which you can use as an alternative instead if you like. The shell rug only requires 6 summer shells to make, so it is an easier option.

Mermaid Fence

One item that is never listed is actually a mermaid fence! You can obtain this recipe from Pascal and craft it at the work bench. Once assembled you will receive 10 to lay down to begin, so keep crafting and you can continue laying down this wall outside for a mermaid themed island! To craft this fence you will need:

  • Pearl 1
  • Coral x5
  • Sand dollar x5

Mermaid Clothing and accessories

You can even get mer clothing that is typically always the light blue and pastel pink colours, there are even some accessories from the otter you can get to match with your outfits such as:

  • Mermaid fishy dress
  • Mermaid princess dress
  • Mermaid tiara
  • Mermaid shoes
  • Shellfish Pochette

There are 4 dresses in total, each contrasting from white, pink and blue and vise versa. Each has lovely pearl detailing, finishing off with a mermaid flare at the bottom.

Most of these dresses can be collected from the visits to Pascal, the only items you will have to craft are the wand and the bag. After collecting the materials needed then used at a work bench, you will be able to add these to your collection. Just check your mobile phone in the DIY section to see what you need to pick up or farm for to craft them as you go. As you can see, I displayed my clothing and accessories on my mermaid wall in my living room space in my home. These are fun to put on and play dress up in game as a mermaid in this sea-scaped room.

Mermaid Shell Wand

Another great piece to collect is the mermaid shell wand. In making the Mer wand there are a few things you need to collect in order to create it. These are the items you'll need to craft:

  • Star Fragment x3
  • Summer shells x3

Make sure you have the crafting station which you can get from the DIY section on your mobile in game. Once created, the mermaid wand once let’s you change your outfit anywhere you are in game! How awesome is that?

My mermaid room

As I'm in love with everything girly and Kawaii, I started to receive these items each day from the otter when completing my daily tasks I set myself in the game. After collecting a good few, I decided to make a Mer themed room for my house. I love the colour tones and how soft and feminine the mermaid theme is.

I had been working on the room for a good while; you need to work hard to get each individual item on a daily basis, allowing this entire project to come to light. If you want to create your own mermaid room, make sure you are dedicated to the task at hand.

Styling The Room

When it came to assembling my mermaid room, I simply chose what I liked. I still move it around sometimes when the notion strikes me, just to change the layout for a new approach, to re-style my room. You can see I take my time and place items where I think they fit really well, as well as making enough room to still be able to move around freely.

Other Nautical Items

There are so many different and unique things to collect and display in ACNH, they can be found in messages in bottles on beaches, in the Nook Cranny shop, even from Gulliver who lands on your beach and supplies pirate items for a pirate themed look in your home. He can be found ship wrecked on your island and once you help him he will send you an item via post. Here are some fun items I have added into my mermaid theme:

  • Birth of Venus painting - (obtained from art dealer Jolly Red's in Harve's island) spot the differences so you know if it’s real or fake!
  • Boat in a bottle
  • Sailor uniform/hat
  • Duck
  • Star Hairpin
  • Shell Speaker
  • Shell Wreath
  • Shell Stool

You can also purchase items if you don’t want to farm for them in game the on ACNH items shop online. This is bought with real money, not in game bells, so be aware of what you purchase.

An Added Touch

I collected up bundles of pearls to drop all over my floor to give my room more or an edge. I would save about 20+ and drop them to give it a bigger pearl sized look, and then do the same thing with more pearls of smaller sized portions for a medium size or smaller look. This just adds into the mermaid theme I was going for.

Customise

Don’t forget that you can take some items to Harve's island once you unlock the DIY section to customize items to change how they look. You unlock this shop by paying the toll for 100,000 bells, popping up the next day ready to use. I did this with the plush teddies (after all, I am a huge fan of plushies like Care Bears) and my duck so the colours would match with my mermaid room. I think this is a terrific feature, allowing you to make things really your own style. You can also use the Animal Crossing New Horizons game-specific service, called NookLink, that lets you customize on the go!

Overall

I hope this article inspires you to create your own mermaid themed home or island in Animal Crossing New Horizons. I enjoyed this project very much and it’s now a relaxing environment for my friends and I to chill out and play mermaids together. Subscribe and don't miss my next ACNH creations.
