Scotland On Your Bucket List
Always wanted to visit Scotland? In this article I will make you fall for the beauty that this hearty country has to offer you.

Scotland Should Absolutely Be on Your Bucket List
Scotland isnโt just the place I call home โ itโs a land that has inspired poets, dreamers, adventurers, and romantics for centuries. As someone who was born and raised here, Iโve grown up surrounded by misty glens, ancient castles, bustling cities, and the kind of raw natural beauty that you canโt help but fall in love with. If youโre planning your next adventure, I truly believe Scotland should be at the very top of your bucket list. Let me take you on a journey through the reasons why.
My Home, My Heart
Iโm endlessly grateful to call Scotland home. From childhood memories of exploring castle ruins on school trips, to late-night walks along cobbled streets under lamplight, this country has been the backdrop of my life and the heartbeat of my story. I live in a little village that is called "the bonnet toun" this means "the beautiful town" and it certainly is. Surrounded by beaches not to far and the closets city 30 minutes away. It really is the perfect place to live. Isaac has everything on his door step and is proud to be Scottish, even joining scouts to show his passion for county.
Scotland isnโt perfect โ no place is โ but thereโs an authenticity here that Iโve never found anywhere else. We Scots are warm, fiercely proud, and perhaps just a little obsessed with our tea. Thereโs a sense of community that stretches from the smallest village to the largest city, and I wouldnโt trade that for the world.
Castles and Culture
Scotland has a rich tapestry of history woven through it's every stone, and nowhere is that more evident than in our castles. If you want to feel like youโve stepped into a fairy tale, here are just a few of my favourite castles and cultural gems:
- Edinburgh Castle: Perched atop Castle Rock, this iconic fortress dominates the skyline of Edinburgh and holds centuries of royal history within its walls.
- Stirling Castle: A masterpiece of Renaissance architecture, this castle was once home to Mary, Queen of Scots.
- Eilean Donan Castle: Perhaps the most photographed castle in Scotland, Eilean Donan sits on it's own tiny island, surrounded by the sweeping Highlands.
- Dunnottar Castle: Dramatic and haunting, this ruin clings to the cliffs of Aberdeenshire and offers stunning coastal views.
- Urquhart Castle: Overlooking Loch Ness, this medieval fortress is perfect for those hoping to spot the elusive Nessie.
Beyond castles, our cultural festivals are legendary. The Edinburgh Festival Fringe turns the capital into the largest arts festival in the world every August. Hogmanay (our New Year celebration) in Edinburgh and Glasgow is the stuff of legend, with fireworks, music, and dancing in the streets.

Scotlandโs Secret
Most people picture misty mountains and rolling green hills when they think of Scotland โ but we also have some of the most breathtaking beaches in the world. Here are a few you simply canโt miss:
- Luskentyre Beach (Isle of Harris): White sands and turquoise waters that could fool you into thinking youโre in the Caribbean.
- West Sands Beach (St Andrews): Famous from the opening scene of Chariots of Fire, this long stretch of sand is perfect for a bracing walk.
- Calgary Bay (Isle of Mull): Sheltered and surrounded by dramatic cliffs, itโs ideal for a peaceful picnic.
- Balnakeil Beach (Durness): Wide, wild, and windswept โ a photographerโs dream.
- Seacliff Beach (East Lothian): A hidden gem near Edinburgh with views of the dramatic Tantallon Castle.
Love Glasgow
Glasgow is often described as Scotlandโs friendliest city, and I couldnโt agree more. From the lively bars of Ashton Lane to late-night chips by the River Clyde, thereโs a magic here that pulls people together. You can spend countless afternoons wandering through Kelvingrove Park, listening to buskers on Buchanan Street, and sampling every brunch spot. For me, Glasgow isnโt just a city โ itโs where my story began.

Fun Fact
The house I lived in as a teenager was called "Parish Holm" this old Scottish house is around 150 years old and has such character you would see in a haunted novel. 18 rooms and three floors, two lounges, 12 fire places, and a few secret doors and hatches that lead to other other rooms. This house sat in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by forest and farm land.ย As I said just like the beginning of a horror story. However, this place truly captured my heart. I still think and dream of it very often, like the house or something is calling me back. Years later I dived into finding out the Scottish heritage of this house and it has a long line of family history tied to it.

Why Scotland Will Steal Your Heart
Thereโs nowhere in the world quite like Scotland. From it's ancient castles to it's modern cities, from rugged Highlands to pristine beaches, itโs a place of stories and song, of tradition and innovation. For me, being Scottish means embracing that fierce independence, that stubborn streak of resilience, and that boundless love for our land and people. I love this country not just for it's beauty, but for the warmth of the people, the depth of our history, and the way our music and poetry find their way into the soul.
So if youโre dreaming of your next adventure, make sure Scotland is on your list. As a female travel blogger I promise you, it will capture your heart the same way it has captured mine, again and again.
